The Welter Of Arguments

Say you what?

Say it again, I dare you

A heave of insults tossed like feathers

Wallowing in the obscenities and froth

Down low the boil writhes

Won’t be long now

Time ticking away at the calm

Bombs exploding are softer than your tongue

Hanging on, is clearly coming up short

Don’t believe what is said

Lies fly like flies on shit, buzzards at a kill

But after awhile, you’ll tire

Just like you always do

I’ll fix us a drink

Give you some time to cool down and reflect

Just like you always do

And we’ll get drunk again and wake in the morning

In each other’s arms

Just like we always do

Dark Room

This room seems darker than usual tonight

No moon and only one candle to see by

You sleep on the couch

With your feet on my lap

I can hear your steady breathing

I can picture the rhythm of your chest

I stare out the window, into the darkness

While finishing my last evening drink

And my last cigarette

Soon I’ll get up

Empty the ashtray, bring my glass and bottle to the sink

Then I’ll come back to you

Put away your needle and spoon

Cover you up, blow out the candle

And hope I see you in the morning

When the last shouts of sunlight

Begin to creep behind the mountains

And the shadows stretch

To nearly impossible lengths

When the sky burns in pinks, purples and reds

Fading out like a dying star

And the wind begins to whisper

Singing like sirens calling from the rocks

This is when you can truly feel the beauty

Coldness as warmth

Darkness as light

The time when you beguile all others

Yet, amuse and delight

Me to the core

I pick apart the reasons

I can justify, just about anything at all

Don’t need to say sorry

I don’t feel sorry

I can tempt all illusions

I can spin them anyway I want

Don’t need to feel bad

I don’t feel bad

I do this all the time

Night’s Work

Cross room glances

Eyebrow raised with bad intentions

Big cat on a prowl

Sinister thoughts

Morbid outcomes

Thoughts that consume this night

Heavy rains and a smash of thunder

Time to get this show on the road

Pick an interest

Find something of a common ground

Something praiseworthy

Something keen

Move in

Go for the kill

All in a night’s work
