Don’t Try

Don’t try

Don’t work at it

In the end, it turns out fruitless

Good for nothing

Don’t try

To be the perfect poet

The next great American author

The person with the next impressive line

Trying at this is pointless

All done for others

To feed an ego

Inflate the head

Instead, take your time

Write about what matters to you

What moves you

What you wish would be

Don’t be put off by what others might think

Your critics usually only hold you back

Don’t write for those who you don’t know

What have they done for you?

Don’t try

Create lines about the impossible

The ridiculous, insane

If your imagination wants, write about the abstract

Those things which only make sense to you

Write what you want

Fuck everyone else

This is your escape

And in the end

You are the only one

Who needs to be impressed

  1. Blogging is a double-edged sword. I’ve never been so productive creatively, but it’s hard not to get caught up in writing for the likes/putting out posts for the sake of posting, innit?

    1. I guess at times it is. But I also see it differently. I write when the ideas come, because when the ideas stop (and they always do, for a time) I always look back and wished I had writen more. The sick cycle of writing???

    2. And I should ad, I do quarantine my writing for a day or so. If I put out everything I wrote…Well there would be a whole lot more bad writes out there. Giving it a day of rest gives me a new view of it. More often than not, it never makes it out of the quarantine alive.

      1. Ha! Cyclical indeed. The best kind of sick, though. I think this is my personal weakness as a writer – I think I place a little more importance on my works’ reception than I should. I’m still working to reach a level of uninhibitedness in my writing. But it’s been a good journey so far.

    1. Wow, glad it helped. Just remember (like they tell you on airplanes to put your oxygen mask on first, then the kids) if you don’t do it for you, you can’t for others. Looking forward to your future writings! Cheers.
