Day: November 25, 2014

Unthinkable And Lonely

I filled today with the unthinkable

I did things I can’t ever do

I drank my gin, before coffee

Read the last page in a book, before the first

Washed the dishes before 7:00 am

My clothes were cleaned and dried by 9:00

I wrote a thank you card

Watched a man loose his wallet and gave it back

Paid for an old lady’s bus fare

I said a prayer at a church

Tipped too much for my meal

And called you…

You said hell would freeze first, but

It’s not that cold down here

Just awfully lonely

No One’s Home

The phone started ringing the moment I stepped through the door.  There’s no need to answer it, for this day has been too long, I know it’s you calling, and I don’t think now is the time for your happy voice.

A Venture Down 6th Street

Doors sway open

Like sheets in high winds

Hair blown askew, lovely ladies pass

The howl is heightened to levels

Where normal conversation is in vain

Garbage floats and whirls down the street

Followed swiftly by a cap

Which, in turn, is followed by a red-faced college punk

It’s bitter, cold, damp

And the rains will ensue

Leaving little time for procrastination

Slow is the fool

And haste is paramount

Daydreams scattered, not soon to return

Destination is the grail coveted, now

To Do List

So many thing to do

So much that needs to be done

Clean the house

Cut the lawn

Paint that door

Pay the bills

Go to the post office

Call that old friend

All these weight like a freight train on the mind

So much that needs to be done

Better take some time

Think it over

So I toss to my left

And fall back to sleep
