Month: December 2014

summer far away

sunshine, breezes and warm nights

longing for those days

For David (Still Stuck In Kansas)

Walking with one shoulder clinging to the wall

As if you are the only reason it stands

Swaying gently, back and forth, back and forth

Don’t go down, for now there is no up

Spin like a top and let it all hang out

You’ve got the hang of this pretty well

You do just fine

Just remember to practice

And if the gods start to laugh at you

Or cast thunder upon you, and knock you down

Just think back

Back to how well you mastered this feat

The obstacles you overcame, the races you won

These are the times champions like you shine

Shine like an atomic blast

Here in the alley, the one with no lights to guide you

And the wall you so heroically hold up

All by yourself

You say

No one takes comfort in you

No one seeks this from you

This perplexes you

Causes you to lose time thinking about it

You look to me for answers

Any advice I can give

“Maybe you should spend less time dwelling on it

And spend more time working on it”

You don’t like this answer

I can tell from the look on your face

Sorry, honey

Sometimes the truth isn’t what you’d expect

Or want to hear

Maybe you’ll learn to take

A little comfort in that

Amazon Crack

There’s a crack in your windshield

It’s been there since I’ve known you

I like it there

It reminds me of an ancient bending river

Somewhere in the Amazon, somewhere we have never been

You see me stare at the crack

You remind me to remind you to get it fixed

But you never even wash this car

So I feel quite comfortable

That this ancient windshield crack/river

Will be around for as long as the Amazon

Just Another Year

Like so many others

As 2014 winds down

I feel the need to write about it

But it felt the same

The same as all the others

There are stacks of good memories

Walks on the beach

Walks in the park

Good times dining out

Good times with drinks and friends

There have been the bad times, too

But I’ll save those for other writings

So here’s to the end of 2014

You weren’t any better or worse

You were no more memorable than any other

And for that, I say thank you and cheers
